What Are Dentures?
A denture is a prosthetic device constructed to replace missing teeth. Gums and your jaw support the dentures. There are many custom designs for affordable dentures. One is conventional dentures, which are removable. Other denture options like implant supported dentures, bond or clasp onto your existing teeth or dental implants.
There are two main categories of dentures, and our dentists at our restorative dentistry office will explain to you about this in more detail. Depending on where in your mouth you will place the denture, there are different types of dentures that may work best for you. Some dentures fit along the top and others on the bottom (arch) of your mouth. Additionally, we can decide the best option for helping you get affordable dentures.
Denture appliance options include:
- Removable Partial Dentures -- These are used to replace missing teeth on a particular arch in your mouth. We specifically fit this type of denture to your mouth, and you will regularly remove these dentures.
- Fixed Partial Dentures -- A more stable, yet costly option than removable dentures. We create fixed partial dentures by placing it on the remaining teeth, which then act as abutments, which makes the dentures more secure. The laboratory uses materials that look identical to your natural teeth. This will make them unnoticeable in your smile.
- Complete Dentures -- Patients who are missing all of their natural teeth will wear full dentures.
Implant Supported Dentures
At Briargate Advanced Family Dental, one of the custom denture options that our restorative dentistry uses is implant-supported dentures. Implant-supported dentures using dental implants are “new teeth” placed in the jawbone which can then serve as anchors for the complete or partial dentures. With this solid support, you will not need to remove implant-supported dentures, making them more convenient. Also, implant-supported dentures look, feel and function just like your natural teeth!
