Frequently Asked Questions
How do you approach restorative dentistry?
If you are experiencing tooth pain, missing teeth, or have old restorations that need repair, restorative dentistry offers solutions tailored to your needs. Our approach combines aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that your restored teeth look natural and feel comfortable.
What is restorative dentistry, and how is it different from cosmetic dentistry?
Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing and replacing damaged or missing teeth to restore their function and improve oral health. Treatments like fillings, crowns, bridges, dental implants, and dentures help patients regain the ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. In contrast, cosmetic dentistry emphasizes the appearance of the smile, offering treatments like teeth whitening and veneers. While restorative treatments also aim for aesthetics, their primary goal is to restore functionality and prevent further oral health issues.
Who can benefit from restorative dentistry?
Restorative dentistry is ideal for patients with damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. It is recommended for:
• Individuals with cavities or fractured teeth
• Patients with missing teeth due to injury or extraction
• People experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity from damage
• Those with worn or broken-down restorations (like crowns or fillings)
Restorative care not only addresses these issues but also prevents future dental problems, such as misalignment or jaw pain, by ensuring proper oral function.
What to Expect From Your First Visit
Your initial dental exam is a thorough, diagnostic-focused visit that includes detailed imaging (inside and outside of your mouth), a CBCT scan for 3D views of your teeth and jaws, and a comprehensive exam with your dentist. We’ll assess key areas such as teeth alignment, muscle and joint health, soft tissue, occlusion, past trauma, periodontal health, and signs of sleep apnea. Please note that no cleaning is performed during this first exam, as we focus on gathering the full scope of your oral health to tailor a personalized care plan.
