Sleep Apnea and Airway Treatments

We offer comprehensive solutions for sleep disordered breathing and airway issues, helping patients achieve restful, healthy sleep. Sleep apnea and related conditions occur when the airway becomes blocked or restricted during sleep, causing interruptions in breathing. Left untreated, these disruptions can contribute to chronic fatigue, cardiovascular problems, and cognitive issues.

Our sleep apnea and airway treatments

We take a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating sleep disordered breathing. Using cutting-edge tools like CBCT imaging, we evaluate your airway structure to identify issues such as narrow palates, deviated nasal septums, or jaw misalignments. Our goal is to improve your breathing and overall health by working closely with specialists, including orthodontists, ENT doctors, oral surgeons, and sleep physicians.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea?

Common signs of sleep apnea include:

Loud snoring

Gasping or choking during sleep

Excessive daytime fatigue or drowsiness

Morning headaches

Dry mouth upon waking

Irritability and difficulty concentrating

Even if you don’t snore loudly, subtle signs like mouth breathing or restless sleep can indicate underlying airway issues.

How does sleep apnea affect my health?

Untreated sleep apnea can lead to serious health conditions, including:

High blood pressure

Heart disease

Stroke

Type 2 diabetes

Cognitive decline and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease

Sleep apnea also contributes to poor mental health, affecting mood and memory. Seeking treatment can improve both your physical and emotional well-being.

How does CBCT imaging help with diagnosing airway issues?

CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) provides a 3D view of your head, neck, and airway, helping us detect structural problems such as narrow nasal passages, jaw misalignment, or a deviated septum. This technology allows us to develop a more accurate and effective treatment plan for patients with sleep disordered breathing.

Can sleep apnea affect children, and how can it be treated?

Yes, children can suffer from sleep apnea and airway issues. Symptoms may include snoring, bedwetting, or poor socialization skills. Early intervention, such as working with speech pathologists and orthodontists, can ensure proper airway development and improve the child’s quality of life. Treating these issues early can prevent long-term complications and promote healthy growth.

What to Expect From Your First Visit

Your initial dental exam is a thorough, diagnostic-focused visit that includes detailed imaging (inside and outside of your mouth), a CBCT scan for 3D views of your teeth and jaws, and a comprehensive exam with your dentist. We’ll assess key areas such as teeth alignment, muscle and joint health, soft tissue, occlusion, past trauma, periodontal health, and signs of sleep apnea. Please note that no cleaning is performed during this first exam, as we focus on gathering the full scope of your oral health to tailor a personalized care plan.
